Antique Painting: Black Shire

This horse has been identified as ‘Starlight’ – the first mare to be 3 times Champion of the London Shire Horse Show 1890-1892 at 8-10 years of age.

Foaled in 1882, her sire was ‘Sir Colin’ No 2022. Her dam was ‘Williamsons Mettle (vol 1V) by Honest Tom (1105)

Bred by Thomas Williamson, Hales Hall, out Rawcliffe, Garstang, Lancs.

Originally known as Williamsons Star & shown by this name by her then owner Garrett Taylor, Trowse House, Norwich at the 1889 London Shire Horse Show taking the Reserve & Highly Commended in class V11.
