Antique Painting: Champion Shorthorn Ox

Ox in a barn interior with stockman looking on holding a turnip with a dogat his side.

Oil on canvas 18 X 24 inches, in its original magnificent gilt frame.

Signed J. Pitman (fl. 1820-1846)

Together with engraving by the artist of the Ox, inscribed, 'Bred & fed by the Miss's Strickland of Apperley Court, Glous, Aged 5 years & ten months when exhibited at the Smithfield Club Show, Christmas 1832, where he received the Silver Medal of the Soc. Neat weight 232 stone of 8lbs, loose fat 30 stone.
