William Harrison Weir (1824 – 1906)

William Harrison Weir was an animal painter & illustrator. Born Lewes, Sussex.

He gained a great reputation for his accurate studies of birds & animals. Weir was a friend of Darwin, a keen naturalist and animal lover. He exhibited six paintings at the RA (1843-1880). He was a keen pigeon fancier and interesting in cock fighting. Weir married as his first wife, Anne, the daughter of J.F.Herring Snr. He also designed Race Cup’s for Messrs Garrard. He illustrated many books.
