Antique Painting: English White Terriers on Harvest Duty
Oil on Canvas, 124 x 158cm by John Frederick Pasmore, Signed and Dated 1854A harvesting scene with farm workers stacking a Rick, whilst a Gentleman thought to be William Cavendish-Bendick-Scott, 5th Duke of Portland (1800 - 1879) and his gamekeeper watch his terriers ratting. The terriers are branded with their owners initial.
The painting is dated the year The 5th Duke came into his inheritance. The ten dogs are the now extinct breed of English White Terrier.
