John Ferneley senior (1782-1860) was one of our finest equestrian artist of the 19C. He operated from his studio in Melton Mowbray painting for the many wealthy clients that came to hunt in the area.

He was a pupil of Ben Marshall. One of his finest paintings is of the Cheshire hunt hanging in Eaton hall for the 1st Marquis of Westminster.
